When Should I Expect Morning Sickness?

What To Expect With Morning Sickness

Although not every woman experiences morning sickness, morning sickness is very common in pregnancy. Approximately seventy percent of pregnant women will experience morning sickness.

Morning sickness generally starts sometime between four and eight weeks of pregnancy and usually resolves early in the second trimester.

Symptoms of Morning Sickness

Symptoms of morning sickness vary. For some, symptoms are quite mild only causing occasional waves of nausea. For others, morning sickness is quite severe causing excessive vomiting and occasionally even needing hospitalization.

The exact cause of morning sickness is not known. HCG is believed to play some part in it.

Interestingly, morning sickness does not just occur in in the morning. Nausea and/or vomiting can occur at any time of day. These symptoms are generally worse in the morning. However, every pregnancy is different and you may find morning sickness worse in the evening or afternoon.

Thankfully for most women, morning sickness is more of a nuisance than anything else. Most women do not experience any complications from morning sickness and it typically resolves on its own by eighteen weeks of pregnancy.
