This recipe for German Coffee Cake has been popular in my family for as long as I can remember. It was always baked on weekends when people were in town for a visit. German coffee cake is a great choice for a stand alone breakfast paired with a strong cup of coffee and fresh fruit.
Cream butter and 1 cup sugar thoroughly. Add eggs, sour cream, vanilla, soda, baking powder, salt and flour, beat well. Pour into a 13×9 inch greased pan. Combine 1/4 cub sugar, nuts and cinnamon to make the topping. Sprinkle on the topping and marbleize by lightly stirring the topping into the batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve with coffee or hot chocolate.
