10 Bad Habits That Affect Your Skin Beauty
Lots of things can affect your beauty and your looks, some positively and many negatively. There are so many bad beauty habits out there, and some of them I didn’t even know were bad. That’s the worst doing something wrong without even knowing it. Fortunately, checking out the following bad habits that can affect your beauty will give you a head’s up on a lot of these mistakes.
10 Bad Habits That Affect Your Beauty
1. Starving to Lose Weight
This is the case with many fitness conscious women. The moment they step on the weighing scale and watch the needle going up by a few pounds, you will find them skipping meals. Doing this will deprive you of essential vitamins and nutrients that are essential for the body. The absence of these nutrients can result in premature aging, sagging of the skin, wrinkles, hair loss and graying. Instead of starving, you should consult a dietitian and find a diet that is perfect for you.
2. Sleeping with Makeup On
Ladies, we’ve all done this. But it’s a bad practice. Over the course of a day, makeup will settle into your pores and might cause irritation and inflammation. The situation worsens when you sleep with your face against a pillow. It’s best to take five minutes to use a gentle cleanser, followed by a moisturizer, nightly before going to bed.
3. Drinking Alcohol
The diuretic effects of alcohol dehydrates your skin, making it look dull. Drinking alcohol also causes facial blood vessels to expand, and repeated overindulgence can cause the vessels to expand permanently, causing red, spidery veins. If you have a pre-existing skin condition, such as rosacea or psoriasis, alcohol has been shown to worsen it.
4. Over Exfoliating
Exfoliating is a good thing – until you take it too far. If you exfoliate too much, your skin can end up dried out and flaky, which will look awful when you try to put on makeup. Worse, if you aren’t careful about the other skin care products you use, you can wind up with irritated, inflamed, red skin, which really defeats the whole purpose of exfoliation.
5. Smoking
Smoking is horrible for your skin. It dries it out and can, after many years, leave your skin with a rough, dry, leathery kind of look. It decreases the flow of blood to your skin as well, and can have a horrible effect on both collagen and elastic. That can make your skin look doughy and saggy, which will make you look older long before your time.
6. UV Rays
Not only is the sun bad for your skin, but spending too much time under sunlamps and in tanning beds is just awful for you too. Say what you will about sunless tanners, but they’re a much better alternative – as long as you don’t overuse them and develop an orange patina. Too many UV rays will cause wrinkles and dehydration, not to mention the dangers of cancer.
7. Popping pimples
Like the tip of an iceberg, a lot of the pus in a pimple lies deeper in the skin than what you see on the surface. When you pop it, you push bacteria further into the skin and increase your chances of getting scar tissue. In fact, there is a condition called acne excoriee des jeune filles, which is French for “acne created by young girls.” Popping and picking at your pimples can turn a mild case of acne into a much more serious one. Leave the pimple alone, and it’ll go away. I promise.
8. Not Sleeping Enough
You know, beauty sleep isn’t really such a myth. You do need it. Unfortunately, for most people, it’s the one thing they don’t get enough of. I know I don’t. But without enough sleep, your body might increase its production of stress hormones, which will in turn decrease the amount of collagen your skin receives, and that is very bad. Sleeping around a humidifier can be extremely helpful – and try to get enough sleep!
9. Eating Junk Food
Often while traveling, you tend to consume more junk food than you even know. Junk food not only makes you put on excessive weight, but it also affects your hair and skin in the long run. You don’t get any nutrients from junk food. As a result, your body suffers from vitamin deficiency that affects both your health and beauty. Hence, make sure that you choose your food wisely, even while you’re traveling.
10. Getting Stressed
Many women have a habit of getting excessively stressed out over little things. Stress leads to sleepless nights that can affect your beauty. Apart from that, stress also results in acne, wrinkles, graying and hair loss. Stress can cause you to neglect your health, resort to junk food or even smoking and drinking. As you already know now, these things are bad for beauty.
So there you have it. I hope that, by knowing the scientific reason why some of your bad habits can affect your skin, you’ll think twice before you indulge. Your skin will thank you later.
