Photographer Rankin Shoots for Graduate Fashion Week
{YBA} Eleven lucky students have had their work prefessionally shot and styled by critically acclaimed fashion photographer Rankin, and Dazed & Confused fashion editor Katie Shillingford
Turkish 22-year-old, Sera Ulger, from Ravensbourne College, is inspired by animals and their sociological and cultural associations.
British student, Kitty Keay, from the Colchester School of Art and Design, was inspired by Marie Antoinnette’s frivolious and fun attitude to fashion and admires the same quality in her favourite designer, Ashish. Rankin said, It was incredibly easy to shoot the clothes – each piece was so beautiful and full of character. I’m sure among the 2010 graduates, we will see a designer that will capture the fashion world’s imagination!’.
Brit student Gina Webster, of Birmingham City University, looked to literary bildungsroman novels, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ to inspire her collection, based on the coming-of-age.
Garry Butterfield, of Northampton University, based his collection on his love of the London Underground, and the intricate detailing of maps, which he translated into abstract patterns on cowhide.
Carly Ellis, of Westminster University, hit a niche with her collection of ‘evening-inspired sporstwear’, all of which actually glows under UV light.
