Butt Acne Causes and Solutions

Both teenagers and adults can experience pimple like breakouts on the front and back of their thighs, forearms, stomach and buttocks. Butt acne is particularly sensitive not because it’s more painful but because of where it’s located. Butt acne can be an embarrassment something you’d rather hide from your spouse or significant other.

Butt acne can seem to come and go sometimes an existing breakout can become worse. Acne breakouts on the buttocks may start out as small red spots. Soon these spots develop a head and release waste fluid. In some spots on the butt, these lesions may be larger and filled with blood.

Butt acne can be a very discomforting and painful experience. More often than not they range from pimples to boils that contain fluids or even blood at times. Acne on the buttocks, therefore, can restrict every movement of yours. Most people suffering from butt acne find it very difficult to attend office or despair over not being able to participate in recreational activities like swimming, gym exercises or beach volley ball games.

Causes of Butt Acne:

  • Our butt is our seat. The longer and continuous pressure we apply to the area will heat up the buttocks and also cause occlusion. This predisposes to bacterial infection, as hot, humid and sweaty areas are the breeding ground for the bacteria.
  • The heating up of the butts is especially severe in obese persons, drivers and those who do not leave their seats for hours together.
  • Any individual whose immune system is compromised, either due to diseases like diabetes or due to medications like steroids or anti-cancerous drugs are prone for acne butt like infections.
  • Many people apply OTC steroid creams mistakenly for fungal infections of the groin, which predispose the area for bacterial super infection.
  • The proximity of the butts to the anal canal, which is the seat of millions of bacteria, is another cause of frequent infections in the area in predisposed individuals.
  • Wearing of occlusive and synthetic non absorbent type of under wears is another cause for acne butt mimics.

Getting Rid of Butt Acne:

  • Exfoliate the affected area, with the help of a wash cloth. Follow this with a body scrub that will help get rid of dead skin cells.
  • Take 4-5 plain, uncoated aspirins and add 1-2 tbsp warm water, along with some plain yoghurt. Apply a thin layer of the paste on the affected area. Allow it to dry and then remove by rubbing in gentle circular motions.
  • Opt for underpants made from natural fibers and totally avoid those that have artificial natural fibers like nylon and polyester in them. At the same time, make sure that they are not too tight.
  • Always wear clean underpants. While washing them, make sure that the detergent is mild and you properly rinse them in water.
  • In case you indulge in exercising, make sure to wash your body with cool water and a hypoallergenic soap afterward.
  • Sweat is one of the main reasons for butt acne. So, try to wear underpants made of absorbent material.
  • Do not use any oil-based body products and stick to the ones that have water as their base.
  • Drink a lot of water and don’t squeeze the acne. The latter case will only aggravate your problem.
  • If the problem persists for too long or is too severe, it is better to consult a skin specialist.

Home Remedies for Treating Butt Acne:

  • Selection of underwear is important here. Ensure that you wear natural fabrics like cotton and avoid artificial fabrics like nylon, etc.
  • Never squeeze or prick the acne as they can cause further infection and pain to your already distressed condition.
  • Always wash your buttocks when you perspire a lot.
  • Drink plenty of water to cure and prevent further butt acne.
  • Maintain a healthy diet to treat butt acne.
  • Try using a brush to scrub your body. This will gently remove the dead cells that have made your skin dirty and vulnerable to infection.
  • Use a formula that clears your skin pores and contains ingredients to wash, protect and nourish your skin, with herbal and mild substances.

General Treatment of Butt Acne:

  • Keep the area well ventilated.
  • Avoid prolonged sitting. Get up and take a walk every half hour if possible.
  • Use only cotton under wears.
  • If your chair cushion feels hot and uncomfortable, change it.
  • Always wash your buttocks and thighs with soap and water after you use the toilet seat. Wear freshly ironed underwear after that.
  • It is advisable to make it a habit of using the toilet seat of the commode before taking a bath.
  • Always make it a habit of keeping the toilet seat elevated while not in use and while passing urine (males) as this will avoid the soiling of the seat.
  • Take a nutritious, well balanced food  with plenty of vegetables, salads and fruits. Avoid fried, spicy, or sweet fast foods.
  • Control your weight.
  • Do regular exercise.
