Acne Care with Coconut Oil: Natural Way of Pimples Treatment

Acne has been a really notorious and infamous problem through times, more so but not limited to, among teenagers, because it is they who suffer the most due to Acne. Although in most cases they disappear with age, but they give you a real bad time as long as they remain. Sometimes you get rid of them without having to spend a single penny (those very lucky ones) and sometimes you spend a fortune in their treatment and end up with nothing fruitful.

The problem with most acne treatments and acne products is that not everyone reacts the same way to the same treatment; what worked for one may not work for another. Because I’m a registered nurse and have come in contact with many acne patients, I’ve learned a lot over the years about acne, acne scars, and acne treatments.

What Causes of Acne?

Under our skin, there are numerous sebaceous glands located in every hair follicle or pore. The sebaceous glands (or oil glands) produce the oily substance called sebum. Sebum normally travels up the pore and spreads over the skin to lubricate the skin and hair. So our skin and hair are healthy.

However, if the sebaceous glands are overly activated, they will secrete higher amount of sebum. Chances are that the pore will get clogged very easily. Anyway, the reason for what causes a blockage is still unclear. However, coconut oil acne treatment can help you remove the acne and keep your skin healthy.

Role of Coconut Oil in Acne Treatment

You might be wondering why on earth coconut oil can treat the acne when it is just an oil. The reason why coconut oil acne treatment really work is the fact that it has the following properties:

Antioxidants: Our skin naturally sheds dead cells everyday, sometimes the dead skin does not slough off as expected. This causes the blockage in the skin, promoting the growth of bacteria that cause inflammation and acne. Antioxidants are effective in clearing away the dead skin cells, preventing the accumulation of bacteria. No bacteria means, no acne.

Vitamin E: This is another plus from coconut oil acne treatment. Coconut oil is rich in Vitamin E. It is composed of two different types – Tocopherol and Tocotrienol. The latter (Tocotrienol) is quite rare. However, it gives you highly concentrated nutrient for skin and hair treatment. You can find it only in the expensive cosmetics. Vitamin E in coconut oil helps control the sebaceous glands to produce the proper amount of sebum.

Lauric and Capric Acid: Coconut oil is filled with anti microbial agents, two of these is lauric acid and capric acid. These acids are the same as those found in mother’s milk that keep the baby protected from infections. When applied on the skin, these acids are converted into Monolaurin and Monocaprin, replacing the protective layer on the skin.

With the protective layer re-established, the skin is protected from acne causing germs. Actually, it regulates the amount of sebum to meet the level that the body needs. So you will no longer have an excess sebum overly left in the pore anymore.

Virgin Coconut Oil: Extra virgin coconut oil has helped many to help heal their acne. Ultimately, of course, the immune system and body do the healing if you were to do nothing, but coconut oil can speed up the process.

Metabolism Boost: You can eat coconut oil by taking one tablespoon or two of it before each meal. This is to increase your metabolism. High metabolism helps regulate and balance hormone secretion. This is another benefit for you to cut off the chances of acne.

I personally take two tablespoons of coconut oil before breakfast and one tablespoon before lunch. Moreover, I also do a facial massage with coconut oil after bath. By a couple of weeks, I found myself having less acne, especially around on my T-Zone.
